Fleet Rushes: Dorset Coast Path Parish Boundary project. Commissioned by Dorset Council.

Oak gates and screens inspired by the unique and breathtaking landscape of the Fleet lagoon and the immersive reed beds along this stretch of the coastal path. The linear design of the gates and screens have hand carved details that form a rhythmic pattern in English oak. The work casts beautiful shadows at different times of day and night, like the spectacular landscape it sits within.
This work marks the parish boundaries of Fleet and Chickerell on the Dorset Coastal Path and is part of the Dorset Coast Path Parish Boundary project, a wider project that has seen many other artists marking each parish boundary for the length of the Dorset Coast Path.

The West Dorset Coast Path Parish Boundary project has brought people together to create artefacts to celebrate special locations. It’s a collaboration between local people, landowners, local artists, and craftspeople in response to their local landscape and its rich cultural history. These artefacts are not interpretation or information panels – they are practical, hand crafted “signposts” informing the walker when they pass from one parish to another as they travel along the coast path.
